I have two farming co-op intentions, Beatty Oregon & Dell City Texas.
With todays sciences a family only needs 20 acres of which half should be controlled forest. I recommend starting with an acre or two and expanding out. The locations I am working with are the most viable for development of ubuntu style eco farming co-operatives, base on 30 yrs of research and trial by error experience.
We can produce 10x a families need of organic food and cover crop for animals on the remaining ten acres.
With co-op distribution wholesalers are not needed.
